Digital version of the 20" x 30" Presentation Board. The physical board had interactive elements including the bookmark and the lighthouse light.
Design Objective
Create a unique design for a 2” x 2” enamel pin that represents the state of North Carolina for the 2023 SkillsUSA state-side competition. If chosen, the design will go to the National competition in Georgia.
Design Brief
North Carolina is a state full of extensive history and beautiful landmarks. The main focus of the design was to represent NC and all its well-known features. I chose books to represent the extensive history of the state. Each book symbolizes parts of the state including: the state bird, state flower, and state insect. The design also features the SkillsUSA logo along with the Principles of Design book. I chose to include this as a tribute to the rules of design that I have incorporated in the planning and overall final product of the pin. The pin was designed to have a moving bookmark element that would be attached by a small ring. The lighthouse bookend has a small white light that could be turned on and off from the back with a small switch. My design won first place at the SkillsUSA North Carolina Leadership Conference in Greensboro, NC. My design also went on to win first place at the National level in Atlanta, GA.
